Meet Dr. Angela Baechtold

Dr. Angela Baechtold is a board-certified pediatric dentist and Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry with Fellowship status. She practiced for 25 years in Western North Carolina.

Dr. Angie is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Kentucky with a BA in Chemistry and Minor in Music. She completed her DDS degree (95) and MS degree (98) in pediatric dentistry both from University of North Carolina Adams School of Dentistry and UNC Hospitals.

Dr. Angie has distinguished herself through her leadership and commitment to pediatric dentistry serving as Past President of The North Carolina Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (NCAPD) and President Elect of The Southeastern Society of Pediatric Dentistry (SSPD). She served as the liaison between the NCAPD and SSPD for several years. She is an adjunct faculty at UNC School of Dentistry Department of Pediatric Dentistry. During her residency, her research on genetic conditions of enamel earned her the Student Hatton International Research Award. Currently, she chairs the fundraising efforts with the UNC Dental Foundation for the Tim Wright Endowed Professorship Fund. Dr. Angie was part of the initial UNC development team in establishing the Baby Oral Health Program (bOHP) curriculum. She is a member of the Buncombe County Dental Society (BCDS), American Dental Association (ADA), SSPD, AAPD, and is a Diplomate Fellow of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.

Dr. Angie spent the majority of her career in private practice with Great Beginnings Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics. She started a private practice in 1998 and was a managing partner for 18 years. Her leadership style and energy helped create a positive vibrant practice culture for both the administrative and clinical teams. She most enjoys creating an office that families and children would be proud to call their dental home. The best compliment she received was from a 4-year-old girl who asked "Dr. Angie, can I have my birthday party here?".

Dr. Angie is trained in pediatric conscious sedation, OR case management, office IV cases, preventive care, interceptive orthodontics, and management of special needs patients. She has completed the Center of Creative Leadership Program. She stays current on techniques and materials including use of the Solea Laser and iTero scanner.

Dr. Angie has served her community at large in Asheville as a Board Member for the retired Health Adventure Children's Museum as well as multiple boards for Central United Methodist Church and Carolina Day School. She is the mother of two adult children, Ethan and Anna Kate. Outside the world of dentistry, she owns Lily of the Valley Flower Farm, a startup farm she is beginning in Burnsville NC. Angie chairs the Horticulture Committee of the French Broad River Garden Club with the Garden Club of America. She has enjoyed travels and adventures with her family, dental service projects in Haiti and fundraising for causes that are important to her. When she is not practicing dentistry or digging in her garden, Angie enjoys playing piano and cello and staying active with hiking and biking.
